Although thousands of people pass every day near this remaining section of the second surrounding wall of Brussels, along the petite ceinture between Place Louise and Midi Station, very few are aware of its eventful history. This fairytale-like monument, more than 600 years old, is in fact the most remarkable witness to the city’s medieval past. After extensive renovation, the Halle Gate now houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to medieval Brussels.
🏗️ Restoration Works
Since March 2025, restoration work has been underway, led by the Buildings Agency, to return the neo-Gothic roof of the Halle Gate to its former glory. The project is expected to last two years.
As a result, the attic and walkway of the building have been inaccessible since March and will remain closed until winter 2026.
⚠️ The museum will be exceptionally closed on Tuesday 14 October 2025.
